F L A T I R O N Women | Jane Hayman
We get to know them a little more and explore their take on FLATIRON.
Jane Hayman has been a part of our sisterhood since day dot. As a comrade in our first Mother's group almost 20 years ago, our kindred spirits caught alight well before establishing The Flatiron Label brand.
Jane's limitless love for art and design, combined with her no-fuss, zero-fanfare energy, and ability to be all hands-on deck with her kids whenever needed, has inspired us for decades.
With such a long-standing friendship in place, we have watched in awe and appreciation as Jane has continued to trailblaze within the art world. As a mother of four, gallery director of STATION, director at Hayman, and founding partner of art and culture magazine VAULT, Jane is a force to be reckoned with on many creative levels!
We caught up with Jane to chat about her off-duty style, how she manages to wear so many hats and why in-store over online is her favourite way to shop.

I am… Mother to Audrey, 8, Matilda, 15, Claudia, 16, and Henry 18. I am also the Director of STATION | Melbourne & Sydney, Co-Director Quarantine Art Fair and Deputy Chair of Gertrude Contemporary.
A day in my life sees me… Over-committed! It all starts with an early run or walk with our Vizsla Frankie, followed by a quick coffee, and then the school run with our youngest Audrey. Then it's a day of work, meetings, projects, conversations. Most of this happens around my kitchen table, but I revel in returning to the gallery when I can! It always seems too quick before the clock hits 3 pm and it's back to school, sport, cooking… never the same routine, but somehow always the same routine!?

I admire women who… Make the time to read the newspaper every day…something I've always wanted to achieve but never get to it!
Things that bring me joy include… Swims in the ocean! A friend once told me, "The cure for anything is saltwater - sweat, tears or the sea," and I could not agree more!
My style in three words is... Classic, monochromatic, easy.

I work my daily wardrobe around… Melbourne's weather, mood, comfort, and what is happening that evening. Each morning I have to ask myself, 'Does this outfit go the distance between day and night?'
In the gallery, my go-to pieces are… Sneakers! Concrete floors are hard on the back! I pair them back with long skirts, singlets in summer, and knits in winter. I reach for suiting if I'm feeling serious!
I love shopping in-store because… I am super particular about fit, cut, and the tactility of fabric – especially with the strong body that I inherited from my beloved rugby-playing father! You can't play with combinations of pieces online like you can in a change room.

My favourite element of The FLATIRON Label is… The sisters! As a 'sister' myself - and as a mother to three 'sisters' - I love being in the company of Sam and Pen. Their rapport, cheeky banter, and respect that they show each other are just beautiful!
I genuinely adore the fabric, detail, craftsmanship, and longevity of each piece as well. There are not many labels in my wardrobe with pieces spanning four years of seasons that still come out on high rotation and work beautifully with each other no matter what collection they were from.
My essential The FLATIRON Label piece is... The skirts! A season must-have for me, the cut, the fabrics, the prints always work. They are also perfect for traveling with as I can wear them with a silk top and heels in the evening, and then slip straight back into them the next day with a t-shirt and a sneaker ready for a day of galleries and museums!
